Body Stress Release Unlocking tension - Restoring self-healing
Welcome to the Body Stress Release website of Boetie and Jane Toerien.
Stress –
physical, chemical and emotional – is part of everyday life.
If the
stress builds up to overload level the body can no longer adapt to it and it
becomes locked into physical structures.
This stored tension may lead to pain, stiffness, numbness or postural
distortions. In addition, the
compression of nerve pathways disturbs the body’s communication system, undermining
normal function. The Body Stress Release (BSR)
technique locates the precise sites of body stress and applies light but
definite pressure to release it. In this
way BSR assists the body in restoring its natural ability to maintain and heal
itself.
Body Stress Release was developed by Drs Gail and Ewald Meggersee and has been
practised in South Africa since 1981.
Body
stress is caused by mechanical, mental and emotional or chemical
factors. A certain amount of stress can be beneficial but when stress overload is experienced, such that the body is unable to adapt to the situation, stress can become locked into physical structures. Such "body stress" may result in pain,
stiffness, numbness and postural distortions. In addition the body's
capacity to co-ordinate its functions is undermined.
Body
Stress Release is a gentle technique in which areas of body stress are
located, using the body as a biofeedback mechanism. The practitioner
identifies the directions of lines of tension and releases it by applying light but definite
pressure.

Arderne Cottage is situated close to the Arderne Gardens in Main Rd, Claremont. These gardens were established in 1845 by Ralph Henry Arderne, Jane's great-great grandfather who also built the cottage from which we practise. The Arderne Gardens have one of the finest collections of exotic trees and shrubs in Africa. Six of the large trees in the gardens are registered Champion Trees with the forestry authorities and enjoy protected status similar to National Monuments. A huge Moreton Bay Fig tree is the largest tree in the Western Cape Province and one of the four largest trees in South Africa. A walk through these beautiful gardens will definitely help to release stress! See below.
